Locals take out candle light march to protest closure of Mubarak Mandi entrance gates
8/10/2020 11:35:34 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 10: Local residents of Mubarak Mandi and Pacci Dhaki localities on Monday evening took out candle light procession to awaken UT administration from its slumber so that they take serious note of the hardships being faced by them due to closure of entrance gates at Mubarak Mandi complex.
Hundreds of residents, who gathered on the complex, raised slogans against the UT administration and the Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society (MMJHS) for harassing local residents in the name of renovation work.
They said the MMJHS has forced the people to hit the roads due to its illogical, arbitrary and mindless decision which has only subjected local residents to umpteen hardships.
“We have been caged in our own localities after the closure of entrance gates. We have not been taken into confidence before taking such a harsh decision. The passage was never blocked even during the Maharaja’s rule. Authorities are resorted to sheer dictatorship which will not be tolerated at any cost,” they said.
They added, “Authorities owe an explanation as to what promoted them to install iron gates and deface heritage structure. Elderly people and ailing people have been facing umpteen hardships due to this arbitrary decision. It appears that authorities want to hide their failures and corrupt practices being committed while carrying out so-called renovation mega heritage complex as only 7 to 10 percent funds have been spent on renovation in the past 12 years”.
The protestors warned that they would further intensify their struggle by involving residents of adjoining localities and shopkeepers if the authorities did not rectify their mistake by opening both the gates.
