Institutional Ethics Committee gives permission for start of Plasma Therapy in GMC Jammu : Dr Bhasin

JAMMU, Aug 10 : Institutional Ethics Committee of GMC Jammu held its full board meeting on Monday in NMC Hall GMC Jammu under the Chairmanship of Prof. (Dr) Kuldeep Sharma (Former HOD Zoology & Dean Jammu University) and patronage of Principal & Dean GMC Jammu, Prof. (Dr) Nasib Chand Digra.
At the outset the Chairman Welcomed all the members of IEC and congratulated new Member Secretary of the IEC. He thanked all the members of previous committee who worked for upliftment of ethics and research standards. Principal & Dean while wishing good luck to the newly constituted IEC said that he will ensure that the IEC gets full support, facilities and independence in working of IEC GMC Jammu. He hoped that new team shall take the IEC standards to new heights and researchers shall be given adequate space and speedy clearance for start of genuine projects. Prof. (Dr) Sanjay Kumar Bhasin, Members Secretary while presenting the Agenda of the meeting took approval of the minutes of the previous meeting of IEC held on 5-11-2019. He informed the committee that IEC stands re-registered w.e.f 26-05-2020 to 25-05-2025. Some of the minutes of previous meeting were approved and some were dropped with voice vote. While presenting the current report he said that after securitization of the projects submitted to the IEC for ethical clearance 44 Category C, 03 Category B and 09 category A projects were found fit to be presented to the full board for IEC Clearance.
He said that the IEC shall be made more VIBRANT, researches friendly & TRANSPARENT. Every endeavor shall be put for Digitalization of the IEC and a separate IEC website shall be designed. Our priority area shall be to ENCOURAGE the Researchers to undertake more and more research projects within the ambit of SOPs of IEC.SOPs have been redrafted and same shall be put on IEC website very soon.
The main projects under Category A which came for discussion included ‘Analysis of genetic polmorphisms in Candidate micro RNA and androgen signaling pathway genes in human prostate cancer’, ‘Application of new Tools for molecular diagnosis and surveillance of Post Kala Azar dermal leishmaniasis and cutaneous leishmaniasis in India’, ‘Study to evaluate the effectiveness of walking spinal on pain free vaginal delivery using injections of Buprenorphine 50mcg and Injections Bupivacaine’ and most prestigious project , “Convalescent Plasma Therapy in moderate to severe COVID-19 patients”.
The members who took part in deliberations includes, Prof. Sunil Sachdev, Prof. Anil Gupta (ASCOMS), Prof. Subash Bhardwaj, Prof. Jyoti Hak, Prof. Seema Gupta, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Adv. P.S. Parmar, Sudhir Kumar, Dev Raj. Dr. Ghamshyam Dev (Former Princiapl, GMC Jammu) attended as Advisor to the IEC, GMC Jammu.
The main highlight of the IEC full board meeting was approval for Convalescent Plasma Therapy in COVID-19 patients as per ICMR guidelines that shall pave way for start of Plasma Therapy in GMC Jammu.
In the end member Secretary, Prof. (Dr) Sanjay Kumar Bhasin extended vote of thanks to the full Board IEC members including Chairman, Principal and Advisory to IEC.
