Manjit Singh appeals Govt to treat PRCs as domiciles
8/11/2020 11:11:38 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

VIJAYPUR, Aug 11: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), senior leader and former minister, Manjit Singh today appealed to the Government to accept Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) holders as domiciles of the Union Territory. “The people in general and in rural areas particularly are facing problems because of formalities to file an application to get a domicile certificate whether online or offline,” said Manjit Singh. Singh was chairing a meeting of people from Vijaypur and its adjoining villages where over two dozen youth joined the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party expressing faith in party ideology and extended their full support.
Speaking on the occasion, former minister Manjit Singh said that the poor people are suffering because the process of making domiciles has become a source of ‘minting money’ for some agents especially when some officials are not approachable for the people of rural areas. “To ease out the process, the J&K Government should accept PRC holders as domiciles and without formalities they should be issued domiciles because the PRC holders are facing harassment even as they have verified certificates,” said Manjit Singh.
Referring to the concern raised by the people, the JKAP senior leader Manjit Singh said that the locals feel that the domicile certificates should be issued to those people who have a residency period of 25 years in Jammu and Kashmir. “The residency period should be fixed at 25 years. At the time, when the youth are without employment and opportunities have reduced, making non locals domiciles will increase more problems,” said the former minister. Making a suggestion, he said that the authorities should start door-to-door service of providing domiciles to the PRC holders in villages of the district.
