Faesal sends clear message
8/11/2020 11:43:16 PM

Bureaucrat turned politician, Shah Faesal, quitting politics is a clear message to Kashmir centric politicians that they cannot take people for a ride anymore and they should see the writing on the wall.
The IAS topper of 2010 batch, who had quit government job in 2018, had floated his political party Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM). He was placed under detention for six months after Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status.
Faesal, who broke his silence nearly after a year, made a candid admission that he cannot take people down the “garden path” as there is nothing that can be achieved.
Faesal saying goodbye to politics is a clear message to all the Kashmir centric politicians that they cannot preach sedition and separatism anymore. If they have to stay in mainstream then they will have to toe the nationalist line and be loyal to the country. They cannot have the cake and eat it too. The Government of India (GoI) took a bold decision on August 5, 2019 by scrapping Articles 370 and 35-A. This step paved the way of complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with Union of India and ended the uncertainty which the mainstream leaders of various political parties had created. As on date all their slogans and rhetoric stand punctured. They have been left speechless and are in a fix. They have no idea about how restart their political activities and the slogans which they can raise.
Shah Faesal’s assertion that Kashmir centric politicians would achieve nothing if they keep on treading on the same old path should serve as an eye opener for the Kashmir centric leaders who even today are beating round the bush and are claiming that J&K will get everything back are once again misleading the people.
Last month National Conference vice-president and former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah had made an attempt to tell his party leaders that NC is comfortable with change in J&K’s status-quo and he won’t contest the assembly elections till the statehood is restored, but he had to eat his words as one of his close aides, NC chief spokesman Aga Ruhullah resigned from the party.
Kashmir centric leaders are aware of the fact that J&K’s special status has gone forever and they will have to move on, but they are unable to speak the truth and are once again trying to build a narrative which will create confusion. Shah Faesal has taken the lead to end the confusion and others should follow him.
