Murmu’s fate as CAG was decided fortnight before August 5
8/11/2020 11:45:06 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 11: Much against the perception being created that Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu was transferred following some sudden controversies, his fate was scripted a fortnight ahead of his being given the new assignment of Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
Sources said somewhere around the third week of July, a high level meeting of the Bharatiya Janta Party brass in the national capital had discussed Kashmir in detail.
Sources said while taking review of situation in Kashmir and need of Murmu for a “crucial assignment in the national capital” as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, it was decided that Jammu and Kashmir would need a new Lieutenant Governor.
Sources said some of the top leaders privy to the decision included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav and junior minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh. Sources said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also in the loop.
Highly placed sources said Murmu had been given a feeler by the New Delhi that he would be given a fresh assignment of the CAG. Sources said this was the reason why the Jammu and Kashmir government had asked the Commissioner Secretaries to be present in Kashmir around August 5 to 15.
What has come as a surprise for the Jammu and Kashmir government however is that the decision came “a bit early.”
Sources said the government was expecting the decision to come after the Independence Day celebrations.
It is pertinent to mention that in a late night development on August 5, GC Murmu resigned as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the very next morning Manoj Sinha was appointed as his successor.
While Sinha landed in Sriangar, Murmu flew back to New Delhi.
A section of influential persons in political circles had been giving a perception that Murmu was called back following his controversial remarks including that Jammu and Kashmir government would have no objection to restoration of 4G in the Union Territory.
“Well this is not the reality. There was no controversy at all. He (Murmu) was knowing about it that he would get a new assignment,” said a senior BJP leader on the condition of anonymity.
