Jammu, Aug 12: Former Minister and President DCC Kathua Dr Manohar Lal Sharma while conduction Block Level Congress meetings for Blocks, Billawar, Ramkote and Mandli today pitched for District status to Billawar.
In the meeting all the presents unanimously supported Dr Sharma and even passed the resolution for the same. While speaking Dr Sharma said that present area of administration in district Kathua is vast, and it causes delays in implementing welfare schemes and projects. The population, human settlements, commercial establishments and industries continue to grow in modern times. A tehsil office is struggling to reach out to the people as population is regularly increasing as a result people will not get the benefits of the welfare schemes in time. Also note that District Kathua comprises of different agro climatic conditions with Plain land, hilly areas, Kandi belt and area along International Border with population of approx. 7 lakhs. Given the present scenario he requested to create further districts so as to cater the people well and a development be made including District Billawar, District Basohli, District Hiranagar. Additionally the creation of a new district lays the foundation for growth. It is the first step towards development. A new district will have a new Collect orate and will encourage employment opportunities and the creation of new commercial establishments and industries and also kindly note as learned proposed district between Billawar and Basohli is totally unacceptable & will be a historical blunder.
