Jammu waiting for good things to happen
8/12/2020 11:45:08 PM

Exactly after one year the Government of India (GoI) has decided to restore the 4G internet services in two districts of Jammu and Kashmir on trial basis after August 16.
People of Jammu region have been demanding the restoration of the high-speed internet vociferously.
Many campaigns are being run on the social media to seek the internet back. It’s the people who are spearheading the campaign, Jammu based BJP leaders have remained tightlipped over the issue and haven’t even made an attempt to raise this genuine demand of the people with the Centre.
People of Jammu region are outraged at the fact that they have been clubbed with Kashmir and they have been deprived of highspeed internet due to situation in the Valley being disturbed.
The 4G services have remained suspended in Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019, when Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and bifurcated it into two union territories.
The Centre has decided to restore 4G internet on trial basis in two J&K districts, but it’s not clear whether both the districts will be of Jammu or one will be in Kashmir. Before taking any decision, the helmsmen should consider all the aspects.
Since the day J&K’s special status has been done away with, not a single incident of violence has been reported any part of the Jammu region. People have in fact supported the Centre’s move and have gone ahead with their lives.
Despite Jammu remaining normal, people are being unnecessarily deprived of their right to internet. People of Jammu are nowhere connected with what’s happening in Kashmir as they have never supported terrorism. They have always stood by the country and history stands testimony to this fact.
People, who are handling J&K at present, should realize that Jammu is not Kashmir and people of this region are entirely different. Jammuities have been paying heavy price for being clubbed with Kashmir for the past seventy years. Since 1947 Jammu has faced discrimination at the hands of Kashmir centric politicians.
After August 5, 2019, Jammuities were expecting that things will change for good but they are still waiting for good things to happen. The first good thing which Centre should do is that it should restore 4G internet services in all the districts of Jammu region. The people of Jammu can’t be held hostage for the sake of Kashmir.
