Court grants police 5-day remand of Rs 28 cr fraud, murder accused

JAMMU, Aug 14: Ist Additional Sessions Court Jammu granted police 5-day remand of a murder accused, who was also involved in Rs 28 crore fraud and other offences after the Crime Branch, Jammu investigating the cases moved an application before the court today. The notorious fraudster and prime accused was arrested by Crime Branch, Jammu from Mohali Chandigarh on August 12 last after absconding for more than 8 years to evade arrest in case FIR No. 302/2012 U/S 406, 409, 420, 468, 471, 120-B/RPC registered at P/S Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The accused was absconding and had gone underground along with his wife and family. During investigation it has come to fore that during his underground period he fled to USA and Australia after transferring huge amount of money to these countries and had acquired property and business there. The accused is also involved in 3 different criminal cases registered in Police Station Channi Himmat, Jammu, Police Station, Batote in Doda (now Ramban district) and money laundering case with Enforcement Directorate. The Court in its decision observed the offence attributed to the accused as heinous and non-bailable and allowed the remand of the accused to police custody for 5 days to get further leads in the investigation of a high profile case of immense public significance so that further evidences of involvement of Gurdeep Singh, son of Harnam Singh of H No 83/1 Channi Himmat, Jammu and others are collected.
