BARAMULLA, Aug 14: Security has been beefed up in across north Kashmir ahead of 74th Independence Day, random search of vehicles was being carried out at many places especially nearby the venue of the main function where the DDCs and other concerned officials are going to take salute on parade.
Reports said that, ahead of 74th Independence day, police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in strength at many places in the all the three district of north Kashmir to thwart any attempts by militants to disrupt the celebrations.
Similar precautionary measures with respect to security arrangements have been made in at the thesil headquarters where BDCs and other functionaries are going to take salute and unfurl the national flag on the Independence Day, sources told early Times.
Meanwhile, full dress rehearsal was held on Aug 13 at all the district headquarters of north Kashmir; however sources also said that drones will be put in place to keep a vigil on every movement.
However sources also informed that, there has been a continuous cease fire violation (CFV) and on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday, there was a massive mortar shelling in Keran sector of Kupwara district.
“There has been massive shelling along the LoC in Keran sector and people had taken shelter in the community bunkers while the other inhabitants were moved to safer places”, said sources.
They said that, there was no immediate report of any causality or something else, but yes panic gripped the area due to which people moved to safer places for their safety.
While as sources informed that, Police and army have recovered three pistols and 15 grenades among other arms and ammunitions in Boniyar Uri in Barammula district on Friday.
Based on specific inputs about presence of arms and ammunition, a joint team of police and army recovered three pistols with magazine and ammunition, 73 AK rounds, grenades besides some Pakistani currency at Trenarian Nallah in Lachipora area.
It is also learnt that, security forces launched massive CASO in Goshbugh village of Pattan on Friday afternoon, where there was information about the presence of militants.
A joint team of 29 RR forces, SOG Pattan and CRPF conducted house to house search operation in Goshbugh and sealed all entry and exit points in the area, till the last reports came in, sources informed.
