PHC Sandhar in ‘acute sickness’ for 12 yrs
8/15/2020 12:38:37 AM
ASHWANI SHARMA

EARLY TIMES REPORT

KATHUA, Aug 14: Believe it or not, a Primary Health Centre (PHC) situated at hilly hamlet of Sandhar in tehsil Basohli of district Kathua itself is ‘ailing’ badly for the last about 12 years as the health institution lacks even the basic facilities to call it a health centre in a real sense.
Not only that the PHC Sandhar is inadequately equipped and having a poor infrastructure but it is also struggling with the shortage of staff.
The staff strength in the PHC is just 2-3 while the sanctioned strength is 20 while there is wild growth of weed and grass all around, even on the walls and roof of the PHC building.
“This worst condition of the PHC was brought into the notice of the concerned authorities many times but nothing positive emerged,” a local of the village, said.
Some villagers informed that among the staffers who only visit the PHC occasionally, were an Ayurvedic Doctor, a Dental Technician and a Lab Assistant.
“About 10 years back, works on gynecology ward and other infrastructure were started in the PHC but left midway and is still incomplete while an ambulance sanctioned for the PHC is standing idle in a miserable condition as it has no driver to run.”
Kalyan Singh, a retired Head Master, also Sarpanch of Panchayat Sandhar said in case of emergency they dial 100 for ambulance which shifts the patient to Sub-District Hospital Basohli.
He also said that the road connecting Sandhar with the main road Bani is a three km long stretch but it is in a dilapidated condition for the last 6-7 yrs which increased problems in shifting patients in case of emergencies.
The villagers have urged upon Lieutenant Governor of J&K to intervene so that they may heave a sigh of relief.
