Kashmir centric leaders maintain silence on Independence Day
Official Twitter accounts turn mute, leaders sank into oblivion

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 14: The Kashmir centric parties have maintained complete silence on the eve of country’s Independence Day with their official Twitter accounts that used to remain abuzz with nonsensical debates suddenly turning mute.
NC, PDP and other Kashmir centric parties haven’t come out with a single message of felicitation this year on Independence Day, raising questions about which elements of the society they are desperate to appease.
“This is quite unnatural that such scenes are being witnessed in Kashmir wherein so called mainstream political parties and their leaders have remained mute on the Independence Day of the country. The nation that has given them anything is being given frighteningly a wide berth by them,” says a political activist here.
Meanwhile, the hallmark of these political parties has mostly been the appeasement of those elements which are inimical to the peace and stability of the country.
Even a sitting MP from National Conference, Akbar Lone raised pro-Pakistan slogans during an election rally in north Kashmir ahead of 2019 parliamentary elections . The irony is that he was at that time contesting polls to secure a seat in country’s Parliament. On March 23, last year, this erratic NC leader already known for his bizarre, unfounded and unnatural statements and comments threw all ethics to wind when he declared in a public rally that he wasn’t ashamed of lauding Pakistan. “ Wo musalmaan mulk hai, wo abaad rahay, hamari aur unki dosti baday, uss dosti ka mai ashiq hun…Agar unko koi aik gali dega mai unko yahan se dass galiyan dunga,” Lone had said in his address.
As far as the PDP is concerned, even the incumbent governors of the past termed the party of being pro-militancy in Kashmir. On October 30, 2018 then Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Satya Pal Malik stated that when Mehbooba Mufti was the chief minister of J&K, the recruitment of militants witnessed a spike and also those pelting stones too found it easier to attack the security forces.
“I have not gone to Jammu and Kashmir with the BJP’s bandwagon. I will work as per the constitution and as far as the previous government in the state is concerned, there must be some reason that the support from the PDP was withdrawn. And I admit the fact that while Mehbooba Mufti was the chief minister of the state, the militant recruitment increased and stone-pelters too got away easily while pelting the stones. And what we are reaping at present is what the coalition did in the state but at that time those who were in alliance partners in the government should have reacted to the mistakes being done. Today, I am not answerable to their wrongs,” Governor Malik had said in an interview then.
