KVK-Leh organizes programme on doubling farmers’ income

Leh, Sept 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organized awareness cum training programme on various strategies to double farmers’ income. The programme was organized at village Sakti in block Kharu of Leh district under the guidance of Dr. D. Namgyal, Prof. and Head KVK-Leh. While interacting with the farming community at Sakti; Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS (Ag. Extension) KVK-Leh informed them that a lot of attention is being paid and a no. of measures has been taken for the agricultural sector by the present government.
Many new programmes for the welfare of farm and farming community have been started. One such of measure aims at doubling the income of farmers by the year 2022. Prime Minister has clearly set the time limit and now all the efforts are focused on how to achieve this target by the year 2022 which will also be the year when the country will complete 75 years of independence. Dr. Parveen talked of the Ladakh Organic Mission Initiative called as Ladakh’s MODI and the seven-point strategy to double the income of farmers by the year 2022. He advised the farmers to reduce their cost of cultivation by substituting the costly chemicals with compost and vermi compost which can be made by recycling of farm and home waste. By this they can produce good quality organic manure.
