PDP, PC flay Centre for stating no leader is under house arrest in Kashmir
9/16/2020 11:29:52 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 16: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peoples Conference (PC) on Wednesday reacted sharply to the Centre's statement in Parliament that nobody is under house arrest in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir.
National Conference (NC), Congress and Apni Party did not react to the written reply in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy yesterday that no person is under house arrest in the UT of J&K.
Terming it ''''sad state of affairs'', PC chairman Sajjad Gani Lone said if someone is under house arrest just say it, adding that either the state administration is lying to the Centre or it is the Centre's own initiative.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter Sajjad, who was a minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government from the quota of saffron party said, "what a sad state of affairs. Y (you) do they have to do this. If someone is under house arrest. Just say it. Either the state administration is lying to the union Govt (GoI) or it is the union Govt's (GoI) own initiative. We live here. We r (are) telling u (you). People r (are) under house arrest. He said vice-chairman of the PC Abdul Gani Vakil is under house and he was not allowed to participate in his sons engagement and marriage ceremony. But as per the statement in the Parliament he is still a free man.
In another Tweet Sajjad said, " Our vice chairman @gani_vakil is under house arrest;not allowed to participate in his son's engagement ceremony & denied permission to participate in his son's marriage ceremony, slated to take place a few days from now. Yet as per today's parliament answer he is a free man''.
Sajjad said he was not under house arrest. But, he said, even when I was officially I was not. So there is huge gulf between official version and real version as there is between falsehood and truth. " If no political leader is under house arrest in J&K, why do you continue keeping an 83 year old man( Prof Saifuddin Sozz) who has served as an MP & Union Minister under illegal detention? How can one lie with such finesse?" Iteja Mufti who is operating her mother Mehbooba Mutfi's twitter said.
She tweeted that " As per @kishanreddybjp claims, no politician is under house arrest in J&K. Can he explain why PDP members were prevented from leaving their homes last week? Shameful that Cabinet Ministers are using parliament as a forum to disseminate lies", she alleged in the tweet.
Youth president of the PDP Waheed Ur Rehman Parra in a tweet said " Blatant lies in the parliament by union ministers that no one is under house arrest. It has now been 7 months of house arrest and 6 months of detention for many of us, since 5 August, 2019".
Another PDP leader Irfan Wani said, " I had joined as state youth secretary only few days back, ended up in Central jail Srinagar. But conviction has not been broken, sentiments are olways there. We will fight politically. We want a space to live with peace & tranquility". Former official spokesman of PDP-BJP coalition government Naeem Akhtar in a tweet said "There are many categories of lies. Lies, white lies, Data, Judicial lies(spoken on oath), Parliamentary lies: This government excels in all".
Former minister Naeem further tweeted, " A well read young sarpanch had joined our party only a few months before August 5 assault on J&K. Informed that he too was detained for 9 months in jail in UP. Similar information is still trickling in. Wonder how fragile and cruel semblance of Indian 'democracy' in Kashmir is".
Three former Chief Ministers ?Dr Farooq Abdulah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti-besides hundreds of leaders and workers of difficult mainstream and separatist organizations were arrested on August 5 when the Centre abrogated Article 370 besides dividing the erstwhile state into two UTs. However, Dr Abdullah and Omar and others were released in March this year.
However, detention of Mehbooba under Public Safety Act (PSA) was extended and she was detained in her house which was turned into sub jail.
The PDP meeting called by General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Hanjoora on September 3 was foiled after security forces closed all roads leading to party headquarter and also allegedly did not allow leader to leave for meeting.
However, NC and Apni Party are holding regular meetings while Congress office was closed last week due to COVID-19.
The NC leaders were allowed to meet after government filed an affidavit in the court that no NC leader was under house arrest. The government filed the affidavit on a petition filed by Dr Abdullah and Omar alleging house arrest of party leaders.
