Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 16: In violation of norms, an allegedly influential doctor in Kashmir, who is already under scanner for numerous scams, has been enjoying the influential chair of a principal of a government hospital here for five years though the arrangement was “temporary.”
The Early Times has got access to official documents, which reveal that the doctor in question was elevated as in-charge principal by the then Peoples Democratic Party led government on “purely temporary basis” in July 2016. Sources said the prolonged stay of the said doctor at the chair at the hospital in Bemina locality has badly affected the healthcare facilities.
Sources said the arrangement was “purely temporary” given the past record of the doctor in question who had been under scanner for numerous scams in the past but was given this charge due to his “political connections”. But the complaints against the said doctor didn’t end even after he was given the charge of principal. Apart from coming under scanner for the allegedly fraudulent appointment of wife in the same hospital he has also come under scanner for multi-crore procurements done for Covid-19.
Apart from complaints of procurement of “fake PPEs”, the said doctor has come under scanner for protests by doctors who had sought his ouster given his allegedly unlawful activities.
There were allegations that to make multi-million procurements related to Covid19 the said principal would call his “favorite businessmen” to official meetings where “staff would be asked to take dictations from the vendors.”
The said principal had also sacked a young doctor for protesting against procurement of fake PPEs.
Finally, the matter had reached the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir who had to call a meeting with the protesting doctors. Though the doctors had sent a memorandum seeking ouster of the said medico and had also sought a probe into irregularities, any action till now is awaited.
Stating that healthcare facilities are badly affected due to alleged maladministration, the doctors and paramedics have appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to get the matter probed.
Despite repeated attempts the said doctor was not available for comments.
But his office people refuted the allegations. “Some people are trying to malign his image and there is nothing wrong in his conduct. He deserves extension of services,” said the official on the condition of anonymity.
