EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, Sept 17: The inhabitants of various villages in Sub-Division Mendhar of Poonch district have urged the district administration to initiate a thorough probe into the alleged use of substandard material for the macadamization of roads in various parts of the area. According to the locals of Harni and Bhimber Gali villages, the recent downpour has washed away the black-topping of the roads in the district, which were recently macadamized by the Roads and Buildings Department, Mendhar.
“The Department blacktopped several roads in the Mendhar Sub division few months ago and spent crores of rupees. However, the recent rains washed away the blacktopping of the roads,” said the residents of Harni.
The inhabitants accused the executing agency of allegedly using substandard material for road macadamization. “The blacktopping got erased due to rains, which speaks volumes about the quality of work done by the executing agency,” the locals said, adding the senior functionaries of the Department should take cognizance of the matter and order a probe into it.
According to sources, about 30 kilometers of inner roads link and other stretches of Mendhar area were repaired and subsequently macadamized by the R&B department Mendhar, adding that however the engineers failed to maintain the standard of work on these roads.
“The money spent on repair and blacktopping of the road has been wasted,” said locals at Bhimber Gali. They said that the road connecting Harni with Bhimber Gali is now dotted with small potholes. “We felt glad after our road was repaired and macadamized.
But now we are highly disappointed with the substandard work done during the macadamization,” the residents of the area told Early Times. The residents urged the Chief Engineer R&B to order a probe at an earliest and take stringent action against the officials involved in executing such a sub-standard work.
