Amid LAC standoff, Army Chief in J&K to review operational preparedness of forces

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 17: Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday amid the ongoing standoff with China along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. Army sources were reported as saying that Gen Naravane was in Srinagar to review the operational preparedness of forces and security situation in the state. While the Army Chief may be primarily reported to be reviewing the situation along the western border with Pakistan, with the Line of Control being hot as well amid repeated ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts, the visit could not be delinked from the situation on the northern border with China.
The Army Chief had visited the union territory of Ladakh earlier this month on September 3 to review the force’s operational preparedness there. General Naravane had visited forward locations in Ladakh during the visit.
There has been talk of the situation along the LoC with Pakistan hotting up as well in case the situation along the LAC spirals out of control and a military conflict with the People’s Liberation Army of China starts.
In fact, some experts have gone to the extent of talking about a possible two-front military conflict should China and Pakistan join forces against India. In this scenario, the Army Chief’s Srinagar visit becomes crucial to take a stock of the situation, both at LoC and LAC.
