Early times Report

UDHAMPUR, Sept 19: Intensifying its drive to protect the consumers from exploitation by the unscrupulous traders, a team of the Legal Metrology Department conducted extensive checking at one of the leading showrooms here.
The team was headed by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Udhampur and consisted of Inspector Legal Metrology Udhampur and other staff.
During inspection, different types of products displayed for sale were scrutinized for their compliance with regard to various provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 and Packages Commodities Rules 2011.
The team booked Icon Global Venture Navi Mumbai for violating labeling norms on its product ‘Safe Life Covid-19 Suraksha Family Pack’. The Department seized all the Packages of the product and challaned the company. During inspection, it was found that packages of 3 ply masks, Cloth masks, hand Gloves were without MRP, date of Packing, Customer Care No. and other Mandatory declarations as required under Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules 2011.
The Department also seized the package of Socks displayed for sale without mandatory declarations as required under the Legal Metrology Act and Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules 2011.
Moreover the Package of Safe Life Covid-19 Suraksha Family Pack were found to be deceptive and designed in such a way to attract the consumer by its size in spite of the fact that neither the three inner packs require such an inflated outer Pack nor any additional protection is required for such inner packs because of that extra size.
In one other instance, A challan was issued to Godrej Consumer Products Ltd for its Mosquito Coils Packages manufactured for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology Act and Packages Commodities Rules on the said Package
The notice was served to the management of both the Companies. After a number of correspondences with the Legal advisor of the Companies, the Company admitted the discrepancies and pleaded for guilty. On the request of Management of the twin companies and with the assurance not to repeat the same discrepancies in future, the booked challans were compounded and a penalty of Rs 50,000.00 each was imposed on the both companies.
