Advisor Bhatnagar visits GMC Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 20: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today visited Govt. Medical College here to took stock of medical facilities available there in view of ongoing pandemic COVID-19 besides inspected the facilities at recently established Control Room in Government Medical College, Jammu & reviewed its functioning.
The Advisor was accompanied by Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education, Atal Dulloo, Principal, GMC Jammu, Managing Director, J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd., Medical Superintendent, Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Epidemiologist, I/C Control Room, XEN Mechanical and other Senior Officers.
Advisor Bhatnagar while reviewing the functioning of the Control Room met the COVID positive patients admitted in Government Medical College & its Associated Hospitals and enquired about their welfare and also took direct feedback from them regarding the facilities provided.
While inspecting the control room, Advisor Bhatnagar directed the officials to maintain proper record of the patients besides providing them all possible treatment and facilities. He asked the Medical Superintendent to ensure that specialist Doctors are deployed in the control room besides regular feedback should be obtained from admitted patients.
Advisor Bhatnagar later interacted with the faculty members and other senior officers of Health & Medical Education Department to ensure that the services being provided in the Govt. Medical College are up to public expectations and the concerns raised by general public are addressed.
He also interacted with on duty doctors in the COVID isolation areas to discuss the difficulties being faced by them during the treatment of the patients and issued on spot instructions to the Principal, GMC to ensure that sufficient medical staff is available there for managing the COVID patients in the Hospital.
During the visit, Advisor Bhatnagar also discussed in detail the issue of increasing the oxygen supported beds and other facilities with the officials. He was assured that additional 150 oxygen supported beds shall become operational in the hospital by tomorrow besides other facilities will be upgraded on time.
Pertinently, the control room was established with the objective to take feedback on the services being provided to the COVID patients including treatment facilities, boarding / lodging, sanitation etc.
On the sidelines of the visit Advisor Bhatnagar briefed the media and maintained that there is no shortage of beds in Govt. Medical College & its Associated Hospitals. He assured the general public of Jammu that the shortage of oxygen has been taken care of and it has been decided that the daily status of vacant beds and other steps taken by the authorities to improve the patients care shall be shared with the public through print & electronic media. He also assured that asymptomatic patients being treated at home shall be provided with Pulse Oximeters for monitoring of Oxygen Saturation besides other medical facilities.
He added that the doctors through help line will enquire about the well being of asymptomatic patients besides they will give them proper guidelines for home isolation. He appealed to the public, not to panic as the number of cases have increased due to increase in number of rapid testing in the Jammu Division and the Govt. is committed to provide best possible medical care to the people requiring such services. He further appealed to the people to ensure social distancing, wearing of face mask, avoiding of over crowding and following of the guidelines issued by the government so as to contain this pandemic.
