Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 21: The Government’s decision to open schools from 9th to 12th classes has drawn strong criticism across Jammu at a time when situation arisen due to COVID-19 is getting worse with each passing day.
Although Jammu has been observing heavy casualties due to COVID-19 on a daily basis as the virus has spread its tentacles to every nook and corner of the region. Moreover this deadly virus has penetrated into rural areas as maximum cases are being reported from far off areas but now when the situation has become grim, the illogical decision of the School Education Department to open has once again put the students as well as the teachers into trouble.
DSE Jammu issued an order directing all Chief Education Officers of Jammu region to open schools for classes 9-12 and asked them to follow all guidelines. Similarly CEOs further directed the ZEOs to ensure the compliance of order.
“The students have been asked to bring NOC from their parents, mentioning that they have been sending their wards with their own risk and responsibility, which clearly shows that the administration is not sure about the safety of the children,” they said. They termed the decision of the department arbitrary and unilateral as parents of students were not consulted, who are as stakeholders. “It will be difficult to maintain social distancing. If a case is found in any institution, all students will have to be put under quarantine then, cases are rising at a fast speed and if the trend continues or worsens then, administration must rethink the plan,” they informed. There is no mention of schools falling in containment zones, which is very serious thing.
They said that the Government should first issue an order to open all Universities and colleges, then Higher Secondary School and then High Schools. Head of the institutions should be given authority to take decisions as per the situation in consultation with sarpanch, panch and parents.
