Sinha effect: Govt to act tough against deadwood, corrupt officials

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 22: In a bid to further improve the deliverance of good governance, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to act tough against officials who are “corrupt or deadwood.”
Sources said since the day Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assumed the charge, he has pledged zero tolerance against corruption and maladministration.
Sources said after a series of strategic meetings in New Delhi, Sinha has been given the full authority to improve the deliverance of good governance for which accountability has become a must. Sources said Sinha had got inputs that some “deadwood and corrupt officials” had been bringing in disrepute for the governance by taking people for a ride. If the highly placed sources are to be believed, many such faces are likely to be shown the door in the coming weeks.
Sources said feedback about growing alienation among the people with complaints against the administration have prompted the government to opt for strict measures.
Sources said the government has been assigned the crucial and time-bound job to prepare the list of officials as per “performing officials or the deadwood and corrupt.”
A senior official told Early Times that the deadwood and the corrupt would be treated with the same yardstick. “Both deadwood and corrupt are burden on the government and it has been decided to get rid of them,” said the official on the condition of anonymity.
He said the performance of the officials was being monitored through multiple agencies including their concerned departments, the General Administration Department, the Central Investigation Department, the Crime Branch and the Anti Corruption Bureau.
“The consolidation of details from all such quarters and the overall public feedback will decide the fate of such persons,” the official added.
It is pertinent to mention that since the day Sinha took over as the LG, he has been active across Jammu and Kashmir putting administration on the toes for deliverance of good governance.
“It has been after several years that we are finding administration becoming so responsive since Sinha Ji took over,” hailed a Jammuite.
