BJP councillor shot dead by militants outside his residence in Budgam
9/23/2020 11:57:13 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 23: Bhupinder Singh, a BJP worker has been shot dead outside his residence in Dalwash village in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Initial reports suggest Singh was chairman of the Khag block development council (BDC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident took place at around 7.45 pm when terrorists opened fire at Bhupinder Singh who died on the spot.
According to preliminary inputs, Singh was assigned two personal security officers (PSOs) from District Police Line (DPL) Budgam. On Wednesday, he dropped off the PSOs at the Khag police station and headed towards his residence in Srinagar’s Aloochibagh.
However, Bhupinder Singh instead changed his route and started heading towards his ancestral home in Dalwash village without informing the J&K Police. This is when militants opened fire at Singh who succumbed to bullet wounds on the spot.
This dastardly attack comes in the wake of multiple such cases reported from the valley this year.
On August 6, BJP sarpanch Sajad Ahmed Khanday was shot dead at Vessu in Qazigund in Kashmir’s Kulgam district. This was the second such major attack after militants opened fire at BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari in Bandipore on July 8. Bari was killed along with his father and brother.
There was also an attempt on the life of Abdul Hamid Najar, Budgam district president of BJP’s OBC Morcha in August of this year. Najar survived the attack but incurred critical injuries.
Militants have also been targeting local J&K Police personnel. A 24-year-old soldier posted at Balpora Army camp was allegedly abducted from outside his home in Shopian and killed by militants last month.
