The decision of the Jammu and Kashmir Government to act tough against the “corrupt” officials and to take deadwood to task is a welcome move.
Since the day Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has taken over the reins of Jammu and Kashmir many things have changed. The administration has become more responsive.
The officials have realized that they cannot take anything casually and they have to respond. They cannot just sitback and relax.
The transition of the erstwhile J&K State into a Union Territory has proved to be a blessing in disguise for the people. Since the day J&K has turned into the Union Territory, people are experiencing what good governance means in real sense.
Their grievances are getting redressed and officials are responding to their queries. So there has been a paradigm shift in the attitude of the officials towards a common man.
Prior to August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to revoke J&K’s special status—barring a few officers, who were upright and honest, the officials had taken everything for granted. They enjoyed political patronage and knew it very well that no one can touch them till their political bosses remain happy. But after J&K’s transition into a Union Territory the politicians, who used to call the shots were sidelined and they lost their addresses.
After August 5, 2019, reality dawned upon the officials that if they don’t take their jobs seriously they will be shown the door. Prior to 2019 whenever, separatists used to call for a shutdown in Kashmir, the government employees used to stay away from offices and enjoy the break. However, after August 5, 2019, these employees made every possible attempt to reach their workplaces even during the shutdown which was called by the Pak stooges after the abrogation of Article 370.
Since the day Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has taken over the reins of the Union Territory, he has reviewed functioning of all the departments and has directed the officials to ensure that public grievances are addressed without any delay.
His instructions are clear that the officials have to serve the people and the ones who will not follow the directions will have to face the music. The government’s decision to act tough against the deadwood needs to be hailed by one and all.
