8th Academic Council meeting held at GCW Parade

JAMMU, Sept 24: Government College for Women, Parade Ground Jammu (Autonomous College) organized the 8th Academic Council meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Dr S P Sarswat, Principal of the College and was attended by internal and external members of the Council: Prof R K Ganjoo, Department of Geology, University of Jammu; Prof M K Jyoti, Department of Zoology, University of Jammu; Dr Ajay Abrol, ECE Department, GCET Jammu; Ms Seema Shekhar, Advocate, J&K High Court; Prof Meena Sharma, Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu and Prof Ram Nandan, Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Jammu; HOD’s, Senior Members nominated by the Principal, Convenor IQAC Prof S K Dhar IQAC Members and Dr. Sonia Khajuria, Member Secretary, Academic Council GCW Parade Ground.
Chairperson, Dr S.P. Sarswat extended warm welcome to the Academic Council members, senior faculty of the College and IQAC members.
The Principal appreciated the technical support staff of the College for extending support for the conduct of the online Academic Council meeting through “Cisco Webex” adhering to the SOPs. Dr Sonia Khajuria initiated the proceedings. There after Prof S K Dhar through his presentation deliberated in detail upon each of the agenda items. These items pertained to alteration in the pattern of examination necessitated due to COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent promotion of students to next semesters, approval of the revised syllabi developed as per LOCF format and other relevant issues for maintenance of the quality education.
The Council was also apprised of the establishment of the Research Wing in the College under the Hub and Spoke Model as per the direction of Higher Education Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and the policy of the College to encourage students to opt for MOOC courses. This initiative was taken in anticipation of the New Education Policy 2020 of the Government of India.
The Council appreciated the fact that GCW Parade Ground is the only college in Jammu Division to have out-stationed subject experts and corporate nominees on the Board of Studies of each subject.
After threadbare discussion, the Council confirmed and approved all items specified in the agenda of the 8th Academic Council Meeting. Furthermore, in the end Chairperson Dr. S.P. Sarswat highlighted the initiatives the College has taken regarding the establishment of virtual laboratory, introduction of vocational courses and in proposed evening classes for differently able students.
The meeting ended with a formal vote of thanks by member secretary Dr Sonia Khajuria.
