Wind power project in Reasi: NHPC seeks project on ownership basis | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 25: J&K’s first ever Wind Energy Project, which was announced nearly eight years back at Bidda in Reasi district, has remained on papers despite fixing numerous timelines for start of work. Even after lapse of many years, the project has not come up as of now on the ground. Since the ownership of the land on which the project is proposed is lying with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) While contacted, Head of Salal Power Station, N Ram said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this project was prepared by NHPC through Wind Resource Assessment Unit, Centre for Wind Energy Technology, Chennai in the year 2011-12 and same was handed over to Science & Technology Department, Jammu & Kashmir Government for further necessary action. N Ram further said that the Bidda area of District Reasi has potential to set up an 8 MW capacity wind power project. NHPC has the ownership of land at Bidda as well as a 33KV transmission system available for evacuation of power generated through this Wind Power Project, he added. Head of Salal Power Station emphasised that if opportunity is given and this project is handed over to NHPC by J&K Government to execute it on ownership basis, it can be very well developed with the available infrastructure & resource of Salal Power Station without any additional expenses. He also informed that by developing this Wind Power Project, Reasi District will be bestowed with the new asset in addition to the Salal Power Station which itself is a pride of the District. Reliable sources said that the NHPC authorities have also taken up matters with the District Administration regarding the setting up of aforesaid project on ownership basis.
