Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Sept 26: In another glaring example of open loot by private health service provider at Government Medical College, another COVID patient from Kishtwar was charged Rs. 35,000 for transportation from Jammu to Srinagar Hospital since no proper bed and treatment was available at Jammu Medical college, but like yesterday one case involving 65 year old retired Teacher Sajjad Ahmed Mir, this patient was not lucky enough to reach Srinagar hospital since the lady COVID patient and her sister met with an accident in Qazigund area as a result of which both the COVID patient as well as her sister died on spot.
As per the details available with Early Times, both the deceased sisters after paying an amount of Rs.35000 to private ambulance service provider left the Jammu in the afternoon towards Kashmir, but the ambulance bearing registration No. PB02BY-1387 driven by Umer Jehangir S/O Mohd Jehangir R/O Dangyar Jammu carrying the deceased victims namely Haji Maryam Sheikh and Dr. Zareena Akthar Shiekh daughters of Ghulam Mohammad Shiekh R/O Sangrambata Kashtwar turned turtle at Nipora stop near Qazigund due to the over speed resulted in on spot death of both the victims while the driver of the vehicle and another person on board received minor injuries. The driver of the ambulance according to the sources escaped from the spot.
The deceased lady on Thursday midnight was forcefully referred to Jammu Medical College from District Hospital Kishtwar as no bed was available at GMC Jammu for critically ill COVID Patients since Jammu hospitals were already overcrowded with COVID patients.
The family members through repeatedly pleas for shifting the patient to Srinagar Hospital as they have made the arrangement for bed in Srinagar hospital, but CMO Kishtwar didn’t listen to anyone including in-charge Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and forcefully shifted her to Jammu hospital from where they were left with no other option other than to shift the patient in private ambulance to Srinagar hospital resulted into the death of both the sisters.
Meanwhile a shocking revelation came to the fore after the registration plate fixed on the ambulance turned out to be that off motorcycle.
As per official transport department website, PB02BY-1387 is registered as Splendor Plus Motorcycle registered on the name of Ajay Kumar with District Transport Officer (DTO) Amritsar with registration date as 21-11-2012 while the said ambulance that meet an accident is Force Cruiser thus raising many question about the real authenticity of the ambulance that meet with an accident and the reason behind fixing a fake number plate on the said private ambulance.
However Kulgam Police has register an FIR and started its investigation, the dead bodies of both the victims were shifted to Kishtwar where they were buried at an ancestral graveyard as per SoP and COVID protocol.
