Kishtwar, Sept 27: Contrary to the tall claims made by the government with regards to availability of beds with oxygen supply in various hospitals of the Union Territory, the oxygen supply plant at District Hospital Kishtwar is defunct due to shortage of the staff to run the unit.
According to the details available with Early Times, the oxygen level plant was installed at District Hospital Kishtwar few months ago and is yet to be made operational due to some technical issues as well as the shortage of funds.
As per the data released by the J&K Government, Kishtwar District Hospital had total 127 COVID dedicated beds out of which 24 are occupied by the COVID patients admitted in the hospital, there are 125 Isolation beds (excluding ICU beds) in the hospital with active oxygen support. Of the 24 patients 21 don’t require oxygen while 3 are on oxygen support and 101 beds are still vacant in the hospital.
The same data few days ago had stated that there are 90 oxygen supported beds in the District Hospital Kishtwar.
The sources told the Early Times, that wrong information being given to the higher authorities by the senior officials has added to the confusion. “When oxygen plant of the hospital is non-functional, how come beds with oxygen supply could be available for the patients if the oxygen plant is not functional,” sources added.
They said that the requisition with regard to requirements of funds for making the oxygen plant at District Hospital Kishtwar had already been submitted to the senior officials, but till date no funds were provided for making the unit functional.
The sources said that in addition to the funds at least six dedicated staff members are required for making the plant operational and to ensure the free flow of oxygen supply to the patients. “We have to fill up the empty oxygen cylinders from Jammu for which we need a permanent vehicle for transportation of oxygen cylinders. It is not easy to make the oxygen plant functional without availability of regular funds” said an employee in Health Department.
He said, “To make oxygen supply plant functional in Kishtwar is the need of the hours as COVID cases are increasing with each passing day.”
