Madhav dropped, what next
9/28/2020 11:56:49 PM
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dropping Ram Madhav from the list of its office bearers is a significant development besides being a national general secretary as he was party’s point man for Jammu and Kashmir.
Decision of the BJP high command to drop Madhav has left his disciples in J&K shell shocked. Many leaders in Kashmir enjoyed Madhav’s patronage and they were surviving in the party due to them remaining in his “chatra-chaaya.”
The decision to exclude Madhav from the list of the office bearers has triggered speculations that a section of leadership within RSS was unhappy over the party’s performance in Kashmir and the recent goofing up of the matters in union territory of Ladakh.
Since the BJP came into power in the Centre in 2014 the party’s central leadership has made many attempts to make inroads into the Valley but the party has not achieved the desired results. There have been allegations that the BJP leaders in the Valley have misled the party’s central leadership by providing it with wrong feedback.
Ram Madhav as BJP’s national general secretary and party’s point man for J&K was completely aware about the in and out of the J&K politics but there were many issues which Madhav and his team in J&K failed to address.
Despite Jammu people going out of way to support BJP the party leaders did not pay much attention towards the needs of the people. After BJP entered into a power sharing agreement with the Kashmir centric Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 all its ministers and leaders became inaccessible to the people who had voted for them. Many issues that were brought into the notice of Ram Madhav were not addressed by him. Had he paid attention, the situation would have been different. There was a general perception in Jammu that Madhav ignored the feedback from the ground and focused all his energy on Kashmir. The BJP national general secretary not focusing on Jammu left the people disgruntled and unhappy.
Now, Madhav is out and the BJP has to appoint a new point man for J&K. Whosoever dons the mantle of Madhav should learn from the mistakes which his predecessor committed. He should realize that it’s Jammu where BJP has grown and not Kashmir. If the saffron party really wants to regain its lost foothold in Jammu region it will have to work hard and put its act together to regain the confidence of the people.
