EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 28: Demanding formation of Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the real cause behind her son’s mysterious death, the mother of deceased Karan Sharma, who died due to drowning in river Tawi, alleged that her son’s was murdered.
Usha Sharma, mother of Karan requested Lt Governor to constitute SIT to investigate the murder of Karan, demanded punishment to the culprits and make local police accountable for favouring the accused. The family members of Karan Sharma today while paying tearful homage to Karan on his 10th death anniversary said that he was murdered by the four culprits on September 28, 2010 at Baba Pedh, Udhampur.
Narrating the incident, Pt Chaman Lal Sharma, uncle of Karan said on that ill-fated day of the incident Karan was taken by his four friends to the river on the pretext to enjoy a picnic as he was doing his BBA course at Government Degree College, Udhampur.
He alleged that Karan died due to brutal and gruesome drowning by culprits, he was provoked by those boys, adding that they left him alone in the middle of deep water of the river stream and crossed the river to the other bank themselves. Four boys had made a cruel joke with Karan, who was then in a sheer helpless situation as he did not know the art of swimming.
In his struggle to save himself from water wave in deep water he cried for help. But nobody helped him as a result of which Karan finally drowned. Drowning was not accidental but it was caused due to provocation, negligence and planned on the part of four boys which can be termed as a conspiracy in this case. Pradip Singh and Vicky Singh ran away after the crime but Rajan Sharma and Nitin Kumar spotted by BSF and handed over to Police in under wears only. The dead body located by family members on fourth day and was fished out with the help of a private diver who was called from Ramban by the Police, he said.
Sharma alleged that it is a fact that ex-MLA Udhampur influenced the then SHO and hampered the investigation and added that family lost Karan but it hurts already bleeding soul of his mother that favour under some influence was granted to the culprits and any kind of investigation was not conducted in this case.
