30% reduction in tuition fee: Govt ‘least interested’
2 weeks on, file sent to Law Dept for legal opinion yet to be returned

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 28: Authorities seem “least interested” in reducing the tuition fee by 30% in the private educational institutions as the file sent to the Law Department for legal opinion nearly two weeks ago by the School Education Department has not been returned till date.
Sources told Early Times that although the Commissioner Secretary School Education Department Asgar Samoon had announced that private schools owners will charge 30% less tuition fee from the students after concerted pressure mounted by the parent’s organisations but nothing of that sort has happened so far.
They further said that the Education Department had sent the matter regarding 30% reduction in tuition fee to the Law Department to seek legal opinion but shockingly it has been more than two weeks since the file has been forwarded but no communication has been received from the Law Department,.
“It is beyond understanding that that the Law Department has been taking so much time for giving opinion on this burning issue despite the fact that there is huge battery of legal experts, who are specialized in handling such matters but continuous delay in this matter has been creating doubt among the public,” they said further adding that in the meantime, the private schools are harassing the parents to deposit the full tuition fee. Parents have been caught in confusion due to School Education Department not making the things clear.”
“Although the School Education Department has its own legal experts to give their opinion on the matter yet sending the issue to the Law Department doesn’t make sense. Moreover, there are many states including Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, which have taken decision to reduce the tuition fee and implementing it but as far as JK UT is concerned, the continuous delay on the part of the Education Department has been discouraging the parents, who have been facing huge financial hardship during this pandemic,” they added.
