Need to introduce some more subjects at senior secondary level

Recently government of india has launched the new education policy of education. No doubt it was the need of the hour for this change in education policy. After NPE (1986) there was no effective document or policy came into existence. Now with the rapid advancement in technology and communication life of every individual and society at large is changing .Now the needs and requirements of society are different as compared to some early years. In this changing scenario of competition there is need of some smart methods of teaching and selection of those subjects and contents which are fruitful for our future need .However in jk UT education department has introduced few new subjects at senior secondary level to cater the need of students. It was a very praiseworthy initiative from worthy commission secretary of school education of JK UT. No doubt commissioner secretary of education and DSE jammu and Kashmir are doing very commendable job for bringing the change in education sector of our region. As we know in this covid era all the education institutions are not fully functional as per their usual routine. In order to compensate the loss of student teaching lot of innovative programmes are being run by the education department. Online classes, zoom meeting, webinar and community classes are some of the alternate programmes which are functional in jk UT.
At senior secondary level introduction of these subjects like buisness administration, disaster management, geology, geography, statistics, Applied Mathematics, Philosophy, psychology and electronics etc will definitely give the benefit to our needy students. With the introduction of these subjects at senior secondary level now the educated youths who are trained and having professional degrees in such courses can take the advantage of job or placement. In future lot of student who were totally unaware about the knowledge and scope of these subjects can take benefit and knowledge from the content and course of these subjects. But still few more subjects which can give the benefit to our students needed at senior secondary level. Subjects like Agriculture, biotechnology, computer Applications and Functional English are very mandatory for the future need of our students. As we know large percentage of our population (jkUT) is dependent on agricultural sector. But our young generation is totally unaware about the techniques and methods of producing crops .Now a days every parent wants that their children got success in life like doctors, engineer etc. Nobody is interested in other professions like Agriculture and other skilled works. There is no charm and craze for others subjects in the minds of our children. This was due to our improper guidance and selection of subjects at the beginning of their career.Earlier due to unavailability of these subjects at senior secondary level there was very limited scope for the students. But now we are focusing towards skill and vocational education.
The focus of new education policy is also at skill and vocational education. With the introduction of agriculture as a subject at senior secondary level we can give the benefit and knowledge to our young generation of this field.Similary Computer Applications, functional english and biotechnology can be introduced to give the benefit to our students.
However there is availability of biotechnology and computer Applications at few higher secondary schools. But great percentage of our higher secondary schools are still aloof from the benefit of these subjects. Functional English can provide the essential knowledge and skill and enable the users to communicate confidently. It has been found that generally our students feels hesitation and shyness in communication even after getting degrees and diplomas.functional english as a language can change the mindset and behaviour of learners. After getting proper knowledge and proficiency in language a student can face the situation with boldness and confidence. Similarly computer Applications is the need of this digital era.in this modern and digital era one who have no knowledge about computer application is still an illiterate. There is dire necessity to introduce this subject at senior secondary level to give knowledge to student which is also helpful for their vocational life.biotechnology and Agriculture are interrelated with each other.biotechnology helps care for the environment by decreasing agricultural chemical applications and carbon emissions. With the introduction of biotechnology in all secondary schools students can take the benefit various research methodologies at the beginning of their career. These are some of the most needed subjects which can give knowledge as well as professional scope to our students. Now in this new education policy there is scope of choicest subject combination for students. Many students who are thinking and dreaming for their choicest subject can take the advantage of these subjects after the introduction of these subjects in higher secondary level. No doubt it is easy to introduce new subjects in higher secondary schools all of a sudden. There is lot of financial complications and resources are needed to introduce any new subjects. But we think there is nothing above than investment on our future.our investment and every policy for students shall bring a bright future for us .in this modern era there is need to invest more equitably. So that the children who are most in need have access to quality learning.
