EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 30: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) held a meeting of representatives of DPs of 1947 from PoK at Rajal, tehsil Nowshera.
The meeting was conducted under the patronage of Gurdev Singh, President (JKSAC) and DN Raina (retired ZEO), incharge tehsil Kalakote, Sunderbani and Nowshera. The participants in the meeting highlighted the grievances of DPs and demanded that registration of their claims for left-out properties in PoK and its compensation thereof and urged upon the Lt Governor to provide them ex-gratia relief as per the recommendation of JPC report along with other components and a roadmap should be prepared accordingly.
Apprising the participants about the issues raised in the meeting Gurdev Singh, President along with Dev Saroop, Dr Naresh Kumar and Romesh Raina said that GOI should find a reasonable alternative to rehabilitate DPs adequately since people who migrated from West Punjab had been settled long back. Gurdev Singh said that recently a proposal of Rs 25 lakhs each DP family was submitted by Omar Abdullah Govt in 2014 and again Rs 30 lakhs along with other components were recommended by Joint Parliamentary Committee in 2014 as an alternative in view of the constitutional implication expressed earlier, but despite of being presented in both the house of parliament, the GOI did not pay any amount till now despite of fact these committees are constitutionally framed and govt is bound to accept the recommendations. Gurdev Singh further said that with the creation of Union Territories the people of J&K particularly DPs of 1947 from POK have entered a new era with the hope that adequate measures would be taken to resolve the decade old legitimate issue. But the hopes are belied as more than one year has passed there is no mention of DPs issue from the govt side. D N Raina stressed upon the incumbent govt to take cognizance of the 2000 crore relief package provided to DPs of various categories, which is being now implemented at a snail pace. He urged upon the Lt Governor to pursue the matter with the MHA at priority for release the funds and also stressed upon the authorities to process the cases of the remaining DPs families so that they may also get the relief in time.
