EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Oct 1: Congress and independent councilors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today submitted a memorandum to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha highlighting failure of incumbent Mayor in addressing their problems as well as the JMC’s negligence in handling various issues pertaining to Jammu city.
In a protest launched today outside Jammu Raj Bhavan, all Congress and Independent councilors led by Congress councilor Gaurav Chopra put up a common grievance against Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta of deliberately avoiding their demands and instead creating problems in the smooth functioning of the corporation. “We have many times brought to the knowledge of the Mayor our demands related to the 73rd and 74th amendments, which empower the functioning of the corporation, but he has always ignored them. Besides, there is no release of appropriate funds for councilors to take up various works in their respective wards,” said protesting councilors. Agitating councilors said the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment Acts have been implemented throughout the country for the last more than 27 years but despite abrogation of Article 370 of Indian Constitution last year the 73rd and 74th Amendment Acts haven't been implemented in J&K so far. Councilors also expressed their grave concern over the crippling healthcare infrastructure in the premier institute Govt Medical College Hospital, Jammu while they also raised the issue of CBI raids at JMC office
They also highlighted failure of JMC in initiating preventive measures to fight covid-19 pandemic and dengue. The councilors later submitted a memorandum to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.
