KVKReasi concludes National Nutrition month

Reasi, Oct 1: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) concluded National Nutrition Month (Rashtriya Poshan Maah)-2020 which was initiated from 1st of September.
Different technical sessions on balance nutrition were organised at Chaiter, Malad, Judd, Talwara etc. of Reasi district of J&K which were enthuastively attended by a number of farm women, school children, Angadwadi Workers ,Supervisors of ICDS department etc. of the district. Some online activities were also organized during the programme.
All SOPs pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic were strictly followed while conducting the activities. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Incharge, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the significance of the National Nutrition Month and said that every year nutritional month is celebrated from 1-30th of September throughout the country by organizing workshops, lectures, seminars, webinars, exhibitions, group discussions, rallies, debates, poster making etc. to aware the people about importance of balance diet for the well being of their health. He spoke on health of women and children and advised participants to focus on malnutrition and anemia among the women and children so that a healthy society can be made.
He informed that more than one–third children in the country are malnourished and there is dire need to intensify the awareness on the importance of nutrition for the children good health which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development. He stressed on the kitchen gardening and roof top vegetables gardening to mitigate the vegetables needs of the family.
He said that it’s not just what we eat but also how and when we eat also matters for the good health. He added that malnutrition is the major obstruction to the national development and there is need to intensify the efforts in battling malnourishment among children and women. He discussed on stunting and added that children require the special attention for their diet as malnutrition leads to irreversible damage including the brain and intellectual development .He urged ICDS department officials to work in close co-ordination with KVK, Reasi so that a healthy society can be made.
The event was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Incharge, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with formal vote of thanks.
