Students stage protest, demand mass promotion

SOPORE, Oct 17: Scores of class 11th students on Saturday staged a protest in Sopore demanding mass promotion while allegedly vandalizing the school property.
As per the local news report, scores of students assembled outside the Girls Higher Secondary Sopore GHSS and staged a demonstration demanding mass promotion. The protesting students termed mass promotion the only solution to their sufferings damaged school property as well as injured one of the teachers posted at GHSS.
As per the eye witnesses, the students who were in large numbers while gathering outside the school started damaging the school property. While as later the protesting students after damaging the school property then blocked Sopore-Srinagar road at Iqbal market which leading to massive traffic jam in the area.
The students raised the slogan in favor of mass promotion and said in view of the prevailing situation, the students suffered a lot as their academic sessions were adversely affected. It is pertinent to mention here this is the third time in this week students of class 11th hit the streets in Sopore, demanding a mass promotion.
Meanwhile, a police official said that police is verifying the incident; he said if students found involved in damaging the school property strict action will be taken. Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Sajad Hussain had assured students that the matter will be taken to the higher authorities of Jammu and Kashmir Board.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education had said that there is no chance of giving mass promotion to students of any class. While as the government has already announced 30 percent relaxation in syllabus in exams for students of class 10th to 12th.
