Poonch: Councilors corner IAS officers in Poonch

Poonch, Oct 19: A senior IAS officer had to come for the rescue of another IAS officer here on Monday after councilors of Municipal Council Poonch raised contentious issues during a meeting held under ‘My Town My Pride’ programme here.
Sources told Early Times that the as per scheduled programme, senior officials of different departments, were present in the meeting wherein local councilors raised several issues pertaining to public but when DC Poonch could not reply to the councilors satisfactorily, incharge official Secretary Sarmad Hafeez came in to help his fellow officer.
The President of the councilors raised the issue of increasing encroachment by shopkeepers, hawkers in town.
He questioned the responsibility and credibility of the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, who they alleged never took effective steps to weed out this menace. Besides he also raised the issue of encroachment near Poonch Fort. The issue has brought the Poonch administration and MC Poonch at loggerheads.
“Poonch Administration had staked its claim which was ruled out by the MC Poonch,” sources said.
Highlighting the alleged slackness of the Labour Department, PHE, Power Departments, Naresh Kumar, another councillor said that despite a number of complaints to the concerned departments, the problems remain unaddressed.
“PHE supply pipelines are leaking at many points, Inspector Labour Department is taking bribes for making labour cards etc. but nobody is taking any action against corrupt officials,” he alleged. He further said that a committee was formed to trace out the encroachment issues since 2014 by the district administration but till date the committee has not submitted its report.
Sonu Salaria, councilor pointed out the issue of encroachment of the hospital land and questioned the silence of the DC Poonch by saying that the issue was brought to his knowledge many times yet no action was taken. “In some cases instead of filing cases against encroachers, the FIRs were lodged against the MC Poonch by a former SHO,” he said further pointing toward the meeting, Sonu said the government holds several meetings where grave issues are raised and discussed but remain without outcome.
When this reporter contacted the SHO Poonch on the issue of complaints on encroachment, the officer said that he had written to the concerned department for seeking a report on the issue and only then action can be taken.
