Jammu, Oct 19: Govt. Degree College, Chenani was paid a visit by the Additional Commissioner (Central), Office of the Financial Commissioner, Jammu, Govt. of J&K, Rishpal Singh on Monday under the program ‘My Town, My Pride’.
He was accorded a warm welcome by the staff and Principal of the College, Dr. Pragya Khanna, keeping in view all the precautionary measures and SoPs of the Covid-19 pandemic. The visiting officer was accompanied by the SDM, Chenani, Abdul Star, Tehsildar, Chenani, Ajay Saraf, AEE, PWD, Suresh Bharti, President of the Municipal Council, Chenani, Manik Gupta, other Govt. officials and eminent citizens of the town..
Located in the heart of the Chenani town presently, the College is the cynosure of the eyes of the stakeholders and the population of the town, with a vast area of 97 kanals and 19 marlas already earmarked for the construction of the building. At the onset, the Principal, after a formal welcome, apprised the Addl. Commissioner about the existing infrastructure, the student strength, total staff and subjects offered at the College.
She also presented him with the Vision and Mission documents and presented an insight of the Institutional plan to check accountability at each level and help students acquire additional hands-on skills and trainings during the three year degree course. Apart from the online classes and digital initiatives taken by the College during these testing times, the College is also forging ahead with a number of co-curricular and extra-curricular online programs to keep the students busy and motivated.
While presenting the roadmap for the next five years, she put forth her intentions for introducing the basic certificate course in Computers and Ecotourism open for all students, remedial and extra tutorials for weak students, honing the writing and reading skill of the students, establishing the academia-industry linkages etc. The Additional Commissioner along with other officials took a round of the College and appreciated the setup and working of the College.
