Sushma inaugurates 5 AADHAAR Enrolment Centres for school students in Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 19: Five Aadhaar Enrolment Centres were today inaugurated under Samagra Shiksha here at different schools of Jammu City.
The Centres were inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sushma Chauhan, in presence of Project Director Samagra Shiksha, J&K, Dr. Arun Manhas at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar, (in person), and through virtual mode at Boys Higher Secondary School, Bakshi Nagar; Girls Higher Secondary School, Canal Road; Government Higher Secondary School Channi Himmat and Government Higher Secondary School, Jourian.
In her inaugural addresses, Sushma Chauhan said that the government has taken several steps towards development of the UT especially in the field of education. She said that Aadhaar enrolment is now mandatory for all the citizens including the student community as per UIDAI guidelines.
The unique ID is required for applying for various competitive exams, seeking admissions in educational institutions, banking transactions etc, she said.
Besides, Aadhaar is a unique form of Identification for all citizens of the country, she added.
She appreciated the efforts being put in by Samagra Shiksha to open new Aadhaar Enrolment Centres in the UT. She asked to complete Aadhaar enrolment before December, 2020 for all students in 5-18 age group. Sushma also reiterated that about 64% of Aadhaar Generation in 5-18 age group has already been completed in J&K and rest 36% shall be completed in next three months.
Project Director Samagra Shiksha, Dr. Arun Manhas apprised that Samagra Shiksha has been designated as Nodal Agency for Aadhaar Enrolment for 5-18 age group. As such two different viz. ‘S&S Telecom’ and ‘ComTech’ agencies have been outsourced the project through e-tendering process. Dr. Manhas also told that a cluster school shall be identified wherein Aadhaar enrolment shall be done.
He said Samagra Shiksha has already provided Aadhaar Kits for 48 different locations out of which 7 locations are functional and the rest would be made functional within one week.
Dr. Manhas also informed that the Aadhaar enrolment will be monitored on daily basis by Samagra Shiksha and District Administration.
Among others who were present at the programme were Chief Education Officer Jammu, Vijay Sharma; Vikas Khajuria-Programmer Samagra Shiksha; Principals of concerned institutions, Zonal Education Officers and officials of School Education Department.
