EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Oct 20: Dilapidated roads in hilly areas of Udhampur district are a common phenomenon thereby giving tough time to the locals but imagine what would be the fate of such people who are forced to tread those stretches still waiting to take a shape to be called as a road link. One such road in Delyot area of Pancheri tehsil in district Udhampur is facing the apathy of the authorities concerned and the delay is victimizing about thousands of people who use this vital road link.
“Especially when someone falls sick or at some emergency cases including deliveries of pregnant ladies one has to carry the sick on cot to the point where some vehicle could be managed for moving to the hospital,” a local informed.
Sources informed that the Malti to Upper Delyot road was to be made in two parts with part one including Malti to Delyot road stretch which is of about 12 km and the second part about 8km was linking Chanound with Upper Delyot.
They said that only earth work has been done on the first part of the road while the second on part the work was put on halt due to forest clearance.
“Now the forest clearance also has been achieved but still the work has not started on this stretch,” sources informed.
Recently a post went viral on social media wherein a lady was shown on a cot being carried by some men from the hilly trek of Delyot.
“My mother-in-law was sick and we had to shift her on cot to the hospital for treatment,” Nisha of Delyot informed over phone.
However, locals of the area demanded a health centre in the area as they have to move to Udhampur or Pancheri for medical help and that is long distance due to which any mishap can occur if someone falls sick in this area, she maintained.
