Police allegedly facilitating illegal mining in Akhnoor

JAMMU, Oct 21: The illegal mining of minerals has been going on unabated in Akhnoor area of Jammu district with alleged involvement of police of the area during night hours which leads to disturbing noise during the night.
Sources told Early Times that despite ban on mining by the Supreme Court, this illegal activity has been going on without fear and the concerned Geology and Mining Department has totally failed to curb the practice.
"The malpractice is being done by the tractor and dumper owners with the help police, which allow them on commission per load due to which police officials of those areas have been making easy money from this illegal activity by facilitating them," they said. They further said that this illegal mining can be seen in the proper Akhnoor area, Dokh Khalsa, Panj Grain.
"The activity starts in the evening from 8 PM, where a large number of tractor trolley, tipper, dumpers come on road and continue to ply the whole night due to which huge irrigating noise is created by these vehicle resulting disturb the sleep of people, resides near road particularly the people suffering from various ailments had to face huge difficulty" the local residents alleged.
Locals have expressed shock over the fact that when mining has been banned then how come these tractors trolley, tipper etc are going on that too in the night. They requested the SSP Jammu to take strict action against the illegal practice.
SDPO Akhnoor said that he had also heard several complaints about it. He further said that the government has allowed few vehicles to carry minerals for the development works going on under PMGSY but it might be possible that some vehicles carry material in the garb of this relaxation. He assured that he would look into the matter.
