JAMMU, Oct, 21: Dharmarth Trust paid glorious tributes to the first Dogra Ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Gulab Singh on his 228th Birth Anniversary, here today. On the occasion, Mubarak Singh, President of the Trust accompanied by by Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, DySP (Retd), member of the J&K Dharmarth Trust Council and Secretary Dr Gopal Parthasarthi Sharma performed Puja and Hawan-Yagya at Shri Raghunath Ji Temple, Jammu, abiding by the social distancing and other norms.
Paying rich tributes to Maharaj Gulab Singh, the Trust President termed the great Maharaja's rule was a glorious period of Jammu and Kashmir kingdom. He recalled the laudable achievements of Maharaja Gulab Singh who is best known for extending boundaries of India outwards far & wide while as rest of the great rulers / warriors of India fought within India and just about altered the boundaries whereas Maharaja Gulab Singh extended the Indian boundaries deep into areas ruled by Afghans, Tibetans and Chinese for which the people of J&K are very much proud of.
"Maharaja Ranjit Singh rewarded Gulab Singh by the conferment of Jammu Raj on him on June 17, 1822, at Jia Pota, Akhnoor. Thereafter by his statesmanship he was able to carve out an independent state. It was Maharaja Gulab Singh who created the State of Jammu and Kashmir with an area of 84,000 Sq. miles," he said. The Trust President said that contribution of Maharaja for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir shall remain incomparable in coming times. He described him as a great visionary, brave and enterprising ruler who did justice to all and treated the subjects as his own family. He laid a very deep and sound foundation of the Dogra dynasty which will remain evergreen in the pristine glory of the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Trust President asserted that the Maharaja Gulab Singh also founded the Dharmarth Trust to provide better facilities to the pilgrims and to maintain various temples and Shrines.
