Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 21: Although Congress has maintained distance from ‘Gupkar Declaration’, its rival BJP has vociferously exploited this issue to corner the party (Congress) for supporting ‘anti-national’ agenda. During the last three days BJP’s campaign revolved around the ‘Gupkar Declaration’ to woo the voters by creating an impression that Congress is also supporting signatories of this ‘Declaration’.
All senior leaders including Union Ministers deputed by the BJP high command to campaign for the party the mountainous region minced no words in attacking Congress for supporting the ‘Gupkar Declaration’.
Former Union Home Ministers, P Chadambaram and party leader Shashi Tharoor’s controversial statements provided much ammunition to BJP to target Congress on the issue of Article 370 and Article 35-A.
Keeping in view the sentiments of people of Jammu and Ladakh, J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir made a distance from the function which was held to formally declare Peoples’ Alliance but controversial statements of central leaders have spoiled all his efforts.
Former minister Nawang Rigzin Zora is heading Congress campaign in Leh while as BJP’s firebrand Lok Sabha member Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, who has become one of the popular party leaders across the country after his speech on the floor of the Lok Sabha on August 6, 2019, is also at stake.
