Mehbooba’s rhetoric puts Farooq, Sajad, others in quandary
10/24/2020 12:47:54 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 23: The bizarre statement of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti seems to have stirred hornet’s nest among the Gupkar signatories with many of them fearing that the amalgam may not sustain after today’s uncalled for rhetoric.
“What Mehbooba Mufti has said is a clear indication that she no longer considers herself as Indian and wouldn’t be accepting the country’s constitution any longer. This is an open sedition. The problem is that she is signatory to the Gupkar resolution signed last year. Recently on October 16- two days after her release- she attended the meeting which was chaired by Farooq Abdullah. However, today’s statement has opened up a Pandora’s box for the Kashmir centric politicians,” said a senior political functionary whose party is signatory to the Gupkar declaration.
Meanwhile, Mehbooba has put Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Sajad Lone in trouble. It is yet to be seen whether they would agree to such a statement of Mehbooba and if they don’t agree with what she has said, the differences may automatically get reflected in Gupkar resolution or Peoples’ Alliance.
“It was the Parliament that was misused but the Parliament had no right to do this. We stood like a wall for Article 370. It was only because of releasing stone pelters, Jamaatis and returning the bodies of militants to their families that the alliance with BJP continued,” she said.
“I have regret that we had joined hands with such a party that betrayed whole country,” she said, adding that she has been a street fighter and coming on roads is nothing new for her.
“Mehbooba has nothing to do with the elections,” she said, adding that “party leaders will sit together with the signatories of Peoples Alliance and take any decision accordingly.”
“Article 370 case is currently subjudice but you need to create an atmosphere on the ground,” she said, adding that the refusal of Geelani to meet the delegation led to the huge losses.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, other signatories of the Gupkar resolution, including Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, have been meticulously weighing their words ever since they were released from detention in March this year. Even for months together, the father- son duo didn’t speak to the press or issue any statement on abrogation of Article 370. Both cited COVID 19 as the major reason for not speaking up.
However, Mehbooba 10 days after being freed has hogged the headlines through her rants and wild accusations. Million dollar question now is going to be whether Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah seconds Mehbooba or gives a wide berth to her rhetoric.
