‘Gupkar Declaration’: Farooq on damage control exercise after Mehbooba’s communal outburst
10/25/2020 12:31:27 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 24: A day after PDP president openly demonized Indian Parliament and brazenly play communal card in her first press conference after release from detention, National Conference stalwart and former chief minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah tried to give secular colour to Kashmir centric ‘Gupkar Alliance’.
After calling prominent leaders of his party from Jammu to discuss recent developments, Dr Abdullah also visited Durga Nag Temple on the auspicious occasion of Durga Asthami and Mahanavmi to give an impression that they still believe in secularism.
Within minutes after his election as head of newly formed ‘Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration’, Dr Farooq Abdullah visited the historic temple and greeted the pilgrims who were gathered there on this auspicious day. He interacted with devotees present in the premises of the temple. NC from its official twitter handle also greeted people on this auspicious occasion. “JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and vice President Jb. @OmarAbdullah extend warm greetings to the people on MahaNavami”, NC tweeted from its official twitter handle. NC leadership has realized that there was strong resentment among people of Jammu region against recent ‘outbursts’ of the signatories of Gupkar Declaration so party has started a damage control exercise. Party leadership called leaders from Jammu for holding discussions and deliberations on Gupkar Declaration.
“The @JKNC_President has started extensive consultations with colleagues from Jammu about the current political situation and aspirations & concerns of the people of Jammu. He has been taking inputs about widening the reach of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration”, Omar Abdullah tweeted.
Dr Farooq Abdullah while interacting with media persons after his election as head of the Alliance strongly refuted the allegation that Alliance was communal and or anti-Jammu.
“It is being propagated that the group formed by the leaders is anti-national. The group is not anti-national, but anti-BJP,” he said and added that BJP has tried to divide people and are making attempts to break the federal structure of the country, but it won’t succeed. It is not a religious fight but the fight for the identity of the people of J&K,” he said.
