Kashmir gears for chilly winds as clouds surround valley

SRINAGAR, Oct, 25: Warm cloth are out due to chilly winds coupled with cloudy sky in the Kashmir valley, where isolated to scattered rain and snow is predicted on Sunday which will be followed by dry weather from tomorrow till end of this month.
A Met department spokesman said there could be isolated rain, snow and thundershowers in Kashmir valley and Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) today. However, he said, weather will remain dry from Monday till end of this month.
The sky was cloudy, coupled with icy cold winds in the Kashmir valley today, where majority people could be seen wearing sweaters and other warm cloths. People could be seen purchasing warm cloths besides blankets from the market. However, people alleged that prices of coal which is used in the Kashmir "Kangri" for heating purpose has gone high as there is no checking from the authorities.
Met spokesman said world health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, recorded 1.3 degree minimum temperature which was lowest in the valley. However, it was still over half a notch above normal.
The famed ski resort of Gulmarg, where light snow was experienced in the upper heights, resulting in cold due to drop in the minimum temperature which was 2 degree, half a notch below normal.
The summer capital, Srinagar, where Darbar Move, seat of the government, including the office of Lt Governor, his advisors and top bureaucrats will close on October 30 to winter capital, Jammu, the night temperature remained blow normal. Against the normal of 3.8 degree, it was 2.6 degree, 1.2 notches below normal.
Spokesman said the weather will be dry and sky mainly clear during the next 24 hours when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 23 degree and 2 degree respectively in Srinagar.
