SRINAGAR, Oct, 26: An unidentified militant was killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Monday evening, a defence ministry spokesman said.
He said based on police input about the presence of militants troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search at Noorpura, Tral, Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Monday evening. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there opened fire, Col Rajesh Kalia said.
He said security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter. One unidentified militant was killed and operation was going on when the reports last came in. Meanwhile, additional security forces and police personnel have been deployed in the adjacent areas to prevent any law and order problem. |
