SRINAGAR, Oct 28: Two militants owing allegiance to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an encounter with police and security forces at Mouchwa in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district during the intervening night of October 27 and 28.
Reports said that police and security forces cordoned off the Mouchwa area in Budgam district on Tuesday evening after receiving inputs that some militants were hiding in the area. As the suspected house was being encircled the militants hiding inside fired upon the joint party of police and security forces.
Both the parties entered into an encounter and the same culminated with the killing of two militants who belonged to JeM militant outfit. One of the slain militants was a local with the other being a foreigner. They were identified as Javaid Ahmad Ganie resident of Pulwama and Khalid @Ilyas, a Pakistani national.
A police spokesman said that on a specific input regarding presence of militants in Mouchwa area of Budgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched yesterday evening by Srinagar Police, Budgam Police, 50RR and CRPF in the said area.
“During the search operation, as the presence of militants got ascertained they were given opportunity to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and due to darkness the operation was suspended, however the whole area was put under strict cordon,” said the spokesman.
The spokesman said that in the wee hours, search operation was resumed and bodies of both the killed militants were retrieved from the site of encounter. One of the killed militants has been identified as Javaid Ahmad Ganie resident of Pulwama and as per reliable sources, the other killed militant has been identified as Khalid @ Ilyas, a Pakistani national. Both the militants were affiliated with JeM.
Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other militancy related crimes, said the spokesman.
“The dead bodies of killed militants shall be sent to Handwara for burial after completion of all medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the identified killed local militant shall be allowed to participate in the last rites at Handwara,” said the spokesman.
