Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct, 28: Two days after resigning from the party, three senior Jammu-based leaders of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said that they will vociferously take up peoples' issues at various platforms.
Addressing a joint press conference with Ved Mahajan and Hussain Ali Waffa, former Rajya Sabha member and one of the founders of the PDP, Trilok Singh Bajwa said that they quitted the party due to 'disrespect' shown to national flag by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. "The national flag is supreme for us. There is no question to tolerate any dishonor or disrespect to the tricolor", Bajwa said and that they formed the PDP under the leadership of statesman Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who had served the nation as Home Minister.
"Being soldier of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed we will never tolerate disrespect to the national flag", he said and regretted that Kashmir centric leaders never consulted Jammu based on policy matters. "Decisions were imposed on us. Secular PDP formed by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has, unfortunately, being hijacked by communal elements", he said, adding, "Honour of national flag is more important than party politics"
Defending their decision to quit the party, ex-MLC Ved Mahajan said that the main aim of forming the PDP was to provide a viable and secular alternative to the National Conference. "After becoming part of the Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration and accepting leadership of Dr Farooq Abdullah as vice president of the alliance, PDP has buried dreams of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed", he said and condemned Union Government for pursuing 'hit and trial' policies in J&K resulting into total chaos and confusion.
"Formation of Peoples' Alliance is a result of the wrong policies of the Centre", he said.
Strongly condemning new land laws imposed by the Union Government on J&K, Mahajan said being political activists they will continue to raise peoples' issue at every platform. "After abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A, BJP had promised to project job and land rights of the people of J&K but now the party has backtracked from its promise", Mahajan said and exhorted that they will take this fight on the streets to project land and jobs rights of the residents of J&K.
Addressing the media persons Hussain Ali Waffa minced no words in attacking the Union Government for cheating and betraying educated unemployed youth of J&K. "Recently recruitments were made in the post and telegraph department and 90 percent of the candidates selected on these posts are from outside J&K", he said. Waffa asserted that they would mobilize the public against anti-local policies being pursued by the Union Government.
