Head Constable caught red-handed by ACB while accepting bribe

JAMMU, Nov 10: A Head Constable (HC) posted at Police Station (PS) Akhnoor was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu while demanding and receiving bribe of Rs 10,000.
The accused cop was arrested after ACB, Jammu received a complaint today wherein the complainant alleged that his vehicle was hit by an army vehicle at Tanda Akhnoor on October 7 in which he was injured.
At this, a case FIR was registered at Police Station, Akhnoor. In the said case, Investigating Officer namely HC Mohd Rafiq of PS Akhnoor demanded an amount of Rs 10,000 on the pretext that he will prepare the charge sheet against the Army vehicle driver while threatened that he will produce the challan against the complainant in case he did not pay him Rs 10,000.
On the basis of this complaint, case FIR No 20/2020 U/S 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018 r/w PC Act 1988 was registered at PS ACB Jammu. A team was constituted to lay a trap. The ACB team laid the trap in which the accused, HC Mohd Rafiq of Police Station Akhnoor was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
Subsequently, search was also conducted at the residence of accused HC Mohd Rafiq. Investigation of the case is going on.
