Early Times Report

POONCH, Nov 10: As many as four water tankers meant for supplying water during times of sudden exigencies in three tehsils of Mendhar Sub Division are lying defunct in the premises of the PHE department for the last several months.
Sources said that in coming winter season the people from Mendhar Sub Division will have to face hard days due to acute shortage of water and during this phase the role of these water tankers play a significant role in meeting the demand.
They said Mendhar Sub Division including Balakote, Mankote and Mendhar tehsils have been facing water crisis since long and the problem gets aggravated further during winter season.
Only four water tankers of PHE Department were available here to supply drinking water to the locals during crisis times. But unfortunately all the four tankers too have turned defunct for the last many months yet no measures were taken by the people at the helm of affairs to carry out their repair or go for the replacement while they are also not making any other arrangement to provide drinking water to the people, they added.
It is pertinent to mention here that if department could have taken pains the tankers would have been sent for repair to the workshop and till then private tankers could have been pressed into service to mitigate the need of people but unfortunately no such move was initiated.
The people of the area sought intervention of District Administration Poonch to sort out the matter.
Meanwhile, AEE PHE Sub Division Mendhar, Sudhir Sharma when contacted said that the repair of the tankers was not possible due to paucity of funds.
