Confusion Prevails
11/11/2020 12:34:31 AM

Senior leader of Peoples Democratic Party and former minister Naeem Akther has made a comeback yet again by issuing contradictory statements on the forthcoming District Development Council elections, slated to be held in eight phases in Jammu and Kashmir from later this month.
When these polls were announced Akther declared that it’s “end of politics” in J&K but after the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) announced that it would participate in these elections, Akther took a U-turn and praised the amalgam of Kashmir centric parties for taking a “right decision.”
After the Bharatiya Janata Party pulled out from the PDP led alliance in the erstwhile J&K State in 2018, the PDP has crumbled under its own weight. Most of its leaders have deserted the party and former J&K chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who headed the party, has been left without courtiers.
After the Centre’s August 5, 2019 decision, PDP and other Kashmir centric parties have lost their addresses. J&K’s special status stands revoked and it has been turned into a union territory. These parties and their leaders have been left issueless.
The PDP has been the worst hit as the party stands at crossroads. It’s not only Naeem Akther who is confused, most of the PDP leaders who are still with Mehbooba have lost their way. They have no idea about whom to side with.
Till the PAGD had not taken any decision on its participation in DDC elections, the leaders of the conglomerate were opposing the polls, but after the PAGD decided to contest these elections, the same set of leaders are terming the decision as a game changer. Anyway, no one takes these politicians seriously. People are aware of the fact that these leaders have survived by just preaching lies and selling hollow slogans and they cannot be trusted anymore.
Since the day PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has been released from 14-month detention, she has left no opportunity to vitiate the atmosphere in the Valley.
Her statements have been aimed at polarizing the situation. She has made every attempt to instigate the people. However, the decision of her party to contest the DDC polls as a part of the PAGD has exposed her yet again. It has proved beyond doubt that there is a lot of difference between the ‘kathni’ and ‘karni’ of the Kashmir centric leaders.
In the coming days we may see many more U-turns and it appears very soon Kashmir centric leaders will plead New Delhi to hand over power to them.
